Owning a “Cheding” in this country even in the past, was something considered to be of a status symbol. The older generation of successful businessmen and women have their eyes set only on one particular car model if they wanted to be chauffeured driven from their homes to their offices, and to their meetings…..and that’s no less than a Mercedes Benz.  Hence the term “Cheding” came about to describe Mercedes Benz cars (even the Kalye boys adapted to it) in the 60s and up to now. I remember there was a Tagalog joke back then that goes “Pag may Cheding ka, may arrive (dating) ka”.
